One Year

May 29th was the first anniversary of Harry's diagnosis.  A day after his birthday.  And we celebrated both.  The 28th consisted of an English final (yea! Taken a week early), the best Chinese food at Panda Gourmet in Best Western (no joke), steaks and a guitar and skateboard(because life is never dangerous enough.).

Remembrance for the 29th  included thinking of every long horrible moment from getting the call to going to the hospital to being admitted to the horrible google searches and lousy New York Pizza delivery from North Capitol (which Harry imagined for years would be the best pizza in Washington.). But it has also brought the port removal.

The port is the device in Harry's chest which delivers his medication quickly.  It looks as if his heart is popping out, if his gear was on the right side.  In addition to fast delivery of medication, it can also be a efficient deliver of infection causing a body to shut down in 2 hours.  As Harry no longer needs chemo 3x weekly, we decided it made sense to have it removed.  Harry was a bit confused as this was a physical connection to the disease and cure.  But the upside is Harry can go to China on June 12.  Yes we are crazy and allowing Harry travel with his friend Casey to Bejing.  From there they have 5 days before ken arrives and drags them to a hotel.  While they imagine billets trains & couch surfing, we are actually planning on them staying with relatives of  friends (which is why DC is such a great place to live.).

Today he had the surgery

The day before surgery Harry went with friends Tzvi Haber, Ytzi.  And the rest of his chai lifeline crew for water skiing & jet surfing.

Big shout outs to the Basser/Ravitz's who just dropped by with a case of toilet paper & papertowels - my favorite gift.  And Lauren Strauss who made certain we have dinner tonight )and more toilet paper & paper towels.). And the Weiss family who may one day return custody of Eden.  It is wonderful to know she always has a place to go - especially on days we need to be at the hospital at 5 am.

Harry's summer plans are shaping up to be China June 12-22, U.S. history at summer school (5x week 3 hours daily) June 22-July 31, best buddies leadership conference in July, learning guitar and a  financial research internship.
